INTRO: The Quiet Drift
Yesterday, I was out on the boat with my family. We found a sandbar near John’s Pass, dropped anchor, and jumped in.
- Now, here’s the thing about that anchor for people that don’t understand boats. As long as an anchor holds, we will stay in place around that anchor.
- The wind blew, the current pulled—but we weren’t going anywhere because we were anchored.
- But the moment I stepped off the boat, I realized something else:
- The current was strong.
- The water wasn’t still—it was moving.
- And I decided to just float for a minute…
- I wasn’t fighting the current.
- I wasn’t swimming.
- I was just… drifting.
- And before I even realized it, I looked up and noticed I had moved.
- It occurred to me that before I knew it if I wasn’t careful, the current would pull me somewhere I didn’t want to go. It would pull me to a place I was in over my head. It would be hard to get back tot he boat.
Here’s the spiritual reality:
The same thing happens in life, and the same thing happens in your walk with God.
- If you’re not anchored… you will drift.
- And listen—most people don’t drift because they want to…
- They drift because they stop fighting the current.
- They drift because it’s easy.
- They stop staying anchored to the things of God.
- And one day, they look up…
- Their peace is gone…
- Their passion is gone…
- Their faith feels far away…
- Then they notice things get hard.
